Dear Brighton Friends,
Thank you for your support in 2017! Your support helped us to make a difference and has positioned us to do even greater things in 2018 and the coming years! In late 2017 we kicked off the fundraising effort for a $7,000,000 program and capital expansion project. This project will allow us to level the playing field for all kids, regardless of their challenges. We are extremely excited about how this project will transform the lives of the children we serve in this community! We will be sharing more in the weeks and months to come so you can be a part of this significant project for our community.
Highlights of what you helped make happen in 2017:
Served More Children Than Ever – In our fiscal year 2017, Brighton Center served 3,875 young children and their families. This number was a HUGE increase of 990 children over the prior year. This was accomplished with less state funding and less billing revenue due to changes the state made to therapy reimbursement rates. This was truly a remarkable accomplishment!
Increased Advocacy Support Capacity – Our fiscal year 2017 was the first year that we had 3 full-time advocates working for families. The demand for our advocates was so great that we added a part-time support position to assist the team. This increased support effort translated into 1,780 parents receiving training in special education law so that their children could receive the supports they need to be successful in school!
Award Winning –The San Antonio Business Journal named us the #2 large employer in the 2017 Best Place to Work competition among both nonprofit and for-profit businesses. We were also recognized as a 2017 Healthy Workplace by the San Antonio Business Group on Health. The icing on the cake was our recognition as the 2017 Nonprofit of the Year by the San Antonio Business Journal. The competition was fierce and we are honored to have been selected as the Nonprofit of the Year!
Excellent Outcomes for Children – Our proudest accomplishment of fiscal year 2017 was the amazing achievements of the children to whom we provide direct services. Through therapeutic childhood intervention, 98% of 1,897 children improved their development within 6 months of enrollment. These children are getting the right help at the right time to make a difference in their lives! Additionally, 100% of the children who graduated from our early childhood education program and started Kindergarten in August 2017 had developed the skills needed to be successful in Kindergarten and beyond! These outcomes are a testament to the passionate, professional, and educated team of therapists, early development specialists, special education advocates and teachers that have chosen to work at Brighton Center and change the lives of children in our community.
