jacksonfamilyMy husband and I have been involved in supporting Brighton since the time we moved to San Antonio in 2003.  Over that time my passion for this organization has burgeoned.  In February of 2009, our son, Jett, was born which fostered a distinct turn in our relationship with Brighton.

Jett was born term under and emergency caesarian that occurred after two rare conditions (velamentous cord insertion and vasa previa) coupled to create a life threatening low heart rate and eventual cessation of heart beat.  After Jett’s delivery he struggled for three days to survive and eventually underwent a groundbreaking progressive therapy knows as hypothermia therapy.  For three days Jett’s body temperature was cooled to around 91 degrees in order to prevent swelling in the brain and spinal cord.  After three days of cooling and intense monitoring by a brilliant team of doctors and nurses, the physicians began the warming process on his fragile body.  Blessedly, Jett tolerated the warming process without incident and we were released with the understanding that Jett would undergo batteries of neurological testing.  Once dismissed from the hospital we were assigned a Brighton team that included highly competent and compassionate therapists specializing in home therapy.  For my husband and me, it feels like a full circle moment in which our initial pull to the Brighton Center was playing out in an intimate and dramatic way within our own home.  From this powerful experience my passion for the Brighton Center grew.

In 2009, the Brighton Center came into our home and became a personal part of my family’s life at an extremely challenging time.  It is from this place of gratitude that I hope to work in concert with Brighton Center to raise its profile and together elicit valuable funds to help further the good deeds of this powerful organization.  And in the process help “our most important treasure – children.”
