The goal of the program is to maximize the family's ability to provide stable home environments that are conducive to learning, development and support.

Project Mission

To assist qualifying families with children enrolled in Brighton’s ECI Program by linking them to transitional housing and support services to provide stable home environments that encourage learning, development and growth.

Program History and Overview

In 2002, Fundamental Foundations began as a partnership between Brighton Center and The Lynd Company to help families in need of better living arrangements by providing transitional housing. The program takes a holistic approach and participants receive a personalized plan to help them attain independence, long term self-sufficiency, and a greater sense of well being for the whole family.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for Fundamental Foundations transitional housing assistance, a family must have a child with a disability or developmental delay who is receiving services through Brighton’s Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Program. Additionally, families must be at 200% of poverty level or below, be experiencing temporary financial stressors and be willing to develop a plan to ensure self-sufficiency after program completion.  Families who qualify may include those who are in need of transitional housing support or financial relief due to financial stressors and/or poor conditions in their current living environment including problems with safety, hygiene, insufficient space, distance from work, poor or limited utilities (water, heating), etc.

Impact on the Community

In its first few years, Fundamental Foundations has provided temporary housing to over 20 families.  Upon completion of the program, over 65% of these families have secured permanent housing or built the capacity to secure permanent housing.  Of these families, approximately 25% stayed in the property where they were originally placed.  Upon program completion, over 65% of our families have been able to transition to a more stable environment or have accrued the resources necessary to acquire permanent housing. Most importantly, over 90% of the children whose family received rental assistance made progress in at least one area of their development, which supports Brighton Center’s mission to maximize the potential of every child in our program.
